CONDITIONS & TREATMENTS

LISFRANC FRACTURE

A Lisfranc Fracture is a dislocation of the lisfranc joint in the foot, which is the joint that connects the metatarsal bones and the tarsal jones.

Lisfranc

CAUSES

Twisting of the foot
Direct forces to the foot, such as falling objects
Trauma from auto accidents

SYMPTOMS

Inability to bear weight
Pain throughout the midfoot
Swelling of the foot

TREATMENT

Some Lisfranc Fractures may be treated conservatively with extended periods of rest from physical activity, a CAM walker to promote stability in the ankle and foot and to restrict motion and weight bearing activities and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen or aspirin). In many instances conservative treatments are unsuccessful and surgical intervention is required. In such instances the surgeon will perform an open reduction internal fixation of the fracture and dislocation.
