CONDITIONS & TREATMENTS

TENDINITIS / TENDINOPATHY

Tendinopathy is a degenerative process that denotes chronic injury to a tendon.

Achilles Tendinopathy Rupture Treatment

CAUSES

Overuse, due to intense activity or training

SYMPTOMS

Stiffness in joint near injured tendon
Pain, tenderness, swelling

TREATMENT

Tendinopathy may be treated conservatively with rest, ice, compression and elevation, or “RICE”, physical therapy to strengthen the tendons, ultrasound guided cortisone injections, Shockwave Therapy, or Platelet Rich Plasma Injections, or PRP. In severe cases, or cases in which the tendon is torn, surgical intervention is required. In such instances the surgeon would debride the degenerative tissue from the tendon, repair any small tears, or perform tendon transfers if the tendon has lost its mechanical properties.

Shockwave therapy is a device that utilizes low pulse activation waves to injured tissue to promote a fast and effective healing response.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections are a procedure where blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a centrifuge to yield a high concentration of the body’s platelets. Platelets contain many growth factors that are responsible for helping heal complex injuries. The platelets are then injected under ultrasound guidance into the area of injured tissue. Patients are then placed in a CAM walker for approximately two weeks to promote stability in the ankle and foot and to restrict motion and weight bearing activity.

Ankle Sprain Treatment

ANKLE SPRAINS

Ankle sprains are an injury to one or more of the ligaments in the ankle and typically occur on the lateral aspect, or outside of the ankle.

Bone Spurs

BONE SPURS

Bunions Treatment

BUNIONS

A Bunion is a deviation of the big toe joint often resulting in a lateral shift of the big toe.

CHARCOT FOOT

Charcot foot can be a serious and potentially limb threatening lower-extremity complication caused by diabetes that affects the bones, joints and soft tissues of the foot and ankle.

DIABETIC FOOT CONDITIONS

According to the American Diabetes Association, 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. People with diabetes can develop a variety of foot conditions, including neuropathy, ulcerations and foot deformities.

Gout Treatment

GOUT

Gout is a form of arthritis due to increased uric acid in the body, typically from dietary sources.

Hammertoe Treatment

HAMMERTOE

A Hammertoe is an imbalance of the foot muscles that causes the middle joint of the toe to bend and become stuck in the bent position.

Heel Spur Treatment

HEEL SPUR

A Heel Spur is a calcium deposit that causes a bone protrusion on the heel bone.

Ingrown Toenail Treatment

INGROWN TOENAIL

An Ingrown Toenail is a toenail that has grown into the skin, often found on the inside or outside border of the big toe.

Lisfranc

LISFRANC FRACTURE

A Lisfranc Fracture is a dislocation of the lisfranc joint in the foot, which is the joint that connects the metatarsal bones and the tarsal jones.

Morton’s Neuroma Treatment

MORTON’S NEUROMA

Morton’s Neuroma is inflammation of the nerve between the metatarsals, or the long bones in the foot, most commonly between the third and fourth metatarsals.

Sesamoiditis Treatment

SESAMOIDITIS

Sesamoiditis is irritation of the sesamoid bones, which are tiny bones in the tendons connecting to the big toe. Often times, the surrounding tendons are also inflamed.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment

TARSAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome is a painful foot condition in which the tibial nerve is compressed as it travels through the tarsal tunnel, or the tunnel on the inner leg that runs behind the bump on the ankle.
